Retail giant Amazon recently announced that the company is opening a new store called "Amazon 4-Star." The store is located in New York's SoHo neighborhood. This new store will offer Amazon Prime members the same pricing as on its website.
Contrary to what many believe that this new store is just a pop-up location, an Amazon spokesperson said that the Amazon 4-Star store is a permanent one. The store will sell items from its website that are rated 4 stars or above, hence the name. Amazon claims that all the items in the store have earned more than a combined 1.8 million 5-star customer reviews.
Many market observers have noticed that Amazon is slowly pushing into the bricks-and-mortar style of platform following the company's acquisition of Whole Foods. Moreover, Amazon is also rolling out its cashier-less convenience stores.
The first Amazon 4-Star store is located in New York's SoHo neighborhood, on 72 Spring Street to be precise. Amazon said that the store will offer "Amazon.com price" to all Amazon Prime members who will shop in this new store. The company added that the store will also offer items that are "Frequently Bought Together" and "Amazon Exclusives."
Customers who are not member of Amazon Prime will have to pay the list price. However, Amazon said that non-Prime members can start a free trial of the service at the store if they want to get a discounted price.
The Amazon 4-Star store is unlike any other shop that the retail giant has come up with. As of this writing, Amazon has opened a handful of physical bookstores across the United States. The company has also started opening cashier-less convenience stores called Amazon Go.
Amazon said that its new Amazon 4-Star store will offer various products including card games, a mini skillet, consumer electronics, toys, books, home appliances, Echo Spot, Fire TV Stick, and other electronic devices which are all available in the company's website. The company said that the store will also offer some "Trending Around NYC" products which it tracks on its website.
Items in the new store will also include digital price tags which will show Amazon Prime members how much they will save, as well as the number and average star rating of the products.
Last week, Amazon revealed that the company is considering the building as many as 3,000 Amazon Go branches across the United States by the year 2020.
