For the Buffalo Bills, the immediate concern is how to jumpstart their offense. Focus would immediately shift to the offensive end but some added manpower on the defensive side could help.

And such could be the reason why the Bills have added defensive tackle Jordan Phillips to the fold, claiming the 52nd overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft off waivers.

For the benefit of those who may not be familiar with Phillips, he appeared in 48 games when he was with the Miami Dolphins. He was never able to crack the starting lineup and normed 5.5 sacks, 53 combined tackles, 11 passes defended and an interception, Buffalo Rumblings said.

Failing to hit it well with the Dolphins, the 26-year-old was released after Miami lost to the New England Patriots last weekend. Phillips had a sideline tantrum, seemingly unhappy with his team. Not long after his release, he would let himself be heard by posting “Free at last free at last.”

It remains to be seen if he can perform better with the Bills. He is a huge and athletic player although a bit rough around the edges. Phillips has tendencies to fluctuate between splash plays and invisibility on the field, a bit similar to Adolphus Washington.

With the move, Phillips immediate goal is to try and crack the starting lineup. Should he be successful, he could end up as the primary backup to Star Lotulelei and allow Harrison Phillips to work more at 3-tech. To make room for Phillips, the Bills released defensive tackle Robert Thomas.

It remains to be seen if this can point the Bills to the right direction. On the offensive end, there is LeSean McCoy who has failed to live up to the hype as being the focal point of the team’s offense, BuffaloBills.com said.

Through the first three games of the season, McCoy has had only 29 touches and averaging only seven carries per game. Apparently, getting the ball has become a problem and such is something that the coaches need to figure out.

Speaking of McCoy, the 30-year-old running back is facing more trouble outside the field. New claims of abuse have been made against the Bills star following an amended lawsuit filed recently at a Georgia court.

The whole issue is tied up to Delicia Cordon, McCoy’s former girlfriend. According to Yahoo Sports, Cordon has accused her former of being involved in a July 10 home invasion in which she was robbed and assaulted. She also claims that McCoy physically abused his 6-year-old son and his dog. Now, Cordon claims that she was also abused during the 2017 offseason.

With unwanted distractions, it remains to be seen if the Bills can gain some headway. They are currently 1-3 in the American Football Conference, the only victory of which was over the Cleveland Browns (19-17) last Aug. 17. The Bills face the Tennesee Titans next on Oct. 7.
