Right now, Amir Khan finds himself displaced with all the attention on Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Recall that the Bolton fighter was widely mentioned as the Filipino’s next opponent. But all that was before “Money” came into the picture.
When Mayweather entered the fray, a potential rematch came out of nowhere. This all happened when the undefeated American boxer and Pacquiao were in Japan for separate reasons. And once the idea of a Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2 rose, Khan found himself out of the picture – for the second time.
While rematch talks remain hanging, Mayweather and Pacquiao are believed to be targeting separate foes before the two get it on. So far, only one name has cropped up as a potential opponent for either – Adrien Broner, Boxing Scene said. Nothing is set in stone for now but Khan is making sure that he won’t be forgotten.
According to the Philippine Star, Pacquiao’s camp has already prepared a contract for Broner. The clash should be something interested although finalizing other details such as where the fight would be held has yet to be settled. A likely place where it could take place in the U.S.
Ironically, Mayweather is also targeting Broner. From the way things are going, it all depends on who gets the 29-year-old to sign on the dotted line. The only clear thing here is that there will be one fighter left without an opponent.
Khan is ready to fill in that void, aware he stands to gain facing either fighter. He holds high regard for both Mayweather and Pacquiao but will allegedly not push his luck, Fight Hub said.
“If it’s not meant to be with one of them it’s not meant to be. I’m not going to force either of them to fight me. If it’s meant to happen it’s meant to happen. I’d love to fight them. I think they are great champions,” said Khan.
He goes on to explain however that there are other fighters on his list. That includes Kell Brook, Shawn Porter or maybe even a rematch with Danny Garcia. In short, Khan is aware he has options.
But then again, nothing beats facing a Manny Pacquiao or a Floyd Mayweather. Khan could get a big boost in his boxing career if he gets to face either fighter. Though he says he has matured, it may be nothing more than a way to show he is not desperate.
His brash stand could hold for now although Khan could change his rant at some point. It may all be reverse psychology for now but at the end of the day, the 31-year-old that he needs a big name fight to soup up his boxing resume.
