At some point, the Golden State Warriors know that some will stay and other go. With salaries of key players ballooning, it will reach a point where team owners Joe Lacob and Peter Guber may not have enough to finance and sustain the Dub City run. One player being singled out is Kevin Durant.

Durant is the prize catch of the Warriors back in 2016. Since then, he has helped the Dubs win back-to-back titles (2017, 2018) and was also the NBA Finals MVP on both occasions. The second overall draft pick of the 2007 NBA Draft spend most of his career with the Oklahoma City Thunder (Seattle Supersonics) and there are some who feel that he could be moving to another team once the 2017-18 NBA season ends.

Backing this belief was the fact that he re-signed a 1+1 deal with the Warriors. According to Yahoo Sports, the best way to explain it is that he values becoming a free agent next year. As for Durant, he says that his taking it year-by-year which most NBA stars like LeBron James practice in the past.

While a return to Oklahoma/ Seattle would make sense, it is actually the New York Knicks being linked to the 7-footer. NBC Sports says that Durant's business partner, Rick Kleiman is based in New York and also because his dad is based there. These are acceptable reasons although no assurance that KD is indeed headed to Gotham, or at least considering it next season.

Apparently, pundits are modeling Durant's future similar to James. Most know how The King agreed to join the Los Angeles Lakers, singling out how LeBron was on a team with an owner he disliked and a questionable supporting cast. The only difference is that Durant doesn't seem to have the same issue unless something diabolic comes out into the open.

Should any of the things mentioned above fail to explain the 1+1 re-signing of Durant, it may be because he wants to have options once his current deal runs out. Anything can happen during an NBA season and opportunities can arise.

At 30, Durant has achieved practically anything any NBA player would year for in a professional basketball career. Again, this is the same case with James who is now venturing into business and Hollywood.

On paper, Durant doesn't have reason to leave the Warriors seeing the success they have been enjoying. Then again, he could consider something James has over him and that is leading another NBA team to the title. Remember, James gave the Miami Heat and the Cleveland Cavaliers NBA crowns. Could Durant consider improving on that starting with the Thunder?
