Tourists love to visit Japan's winter and spring seasons. A lot of people want to see cherry blossoms while others want to avoid the chilling cold of winter. But autumn is the best season to visit the country, too. Visitors can see the scenic burst of colors of trees from red, yellow to orange. So here are the best places to witness the best momijigari or the leaf viewing experience.
Lake Towada
Lake Towada or Towadako is at the northern tip of Honshu, Japan's main island. This place will make tourists closer to nature that will give them a more relaxing experience to witness the leaves changing color in autumn.
According to the South China Morning Post, the best time to visit Lake Towada is in early October. Here, visitors can see the first hints of "reddening leaves." It can also give the earliest glimpse of autumn colors.
Metasequoia Road
Although Japan has a lot of roads lined with a bunch of trees or dawn redwoods, Metasequoia Road is one of the most popular ones. It is in Shiga Prefecture that extends for 2.4 kilometers along the Makino Highland in Takashima, per Diversity Finder.
A metasequoia is a needle-leaf tree. It stands about 30 to 35 meters, and best known as part of Korean drama scenes that make the metasequoia trees in Shiga famous.
Metasequoia Road stretches from Makino Pick Land to the Makino highland, and it is called "Row of Metasequoia Trees." It is on both sides of the road. Its figure changed by four seasons, and the best time to see this place for autumn is in early November to early December.
Byodoin Temple
People in Japan see Byodoin almost every day as it is on the one side of the 10-Yen coin. But it is best to see it in person in the town of Uji. Japan Today reported that it is always the best time to visit this place as it looks dazzling every season.
However, Byodoin especially looks stunning when it is the fall season. The leaves start to change its color to vibrant red, orange, and yellow to match the shade of the building's painted timbers. The best time to witness this is from early November to the last few weeks of the said month.
Its striking view is not the only thing Byodoin has to offer. Uji has Japan's best matcha. So if the visitors get tired of seeing its eye-catching sights or if they want to take a sip of green tea while looking at the landscape, this place also has a lot of cafes that offer different kinds of desserts.
