Big Hit Entertainment released an official statement regarding its move to protect BTS on Monday, November 19. The entertainment firm stands firm to its decision to seek legal actions against derogatory comments related to Bangtan Boys, updating the company's 2016 and 2017 announcements.
"In June, we spoke of our legal course of action against malicious netizens who leave malicious posts that attack our artists," Big Hi Entertainment revealed, per Soompi. "We also collected evidence through Big Hit's official e-mail address."
Big Hit Entertainment already received about 41,000 emails from June 15 to late October. It also got around 71,000 cases, although some were repeated ones, related to BTS and each of its members.
The company said that it already sought legal counsel and pressed charges against those people who delivered hateful and malicious comments and spreading wrong information about BTS. It also included personal attacks and defamation that continuously violate Big Hit Entertainment artists' rights.
The music label also sought legal actions against netizens who pretended to be Big Hit Entertainment's employee. These people often spread false information about the company and its artists and post it on social media.
It decided to hire a professional law firm that handles these kinds of issues against malicious netizens. Big Hit Entertainment also planned to pursue full legal action without settlements or reduced sentences for people who create malicious content and insults to the company, BTS, and its other artists, even though it will take a long while to take this process.
"We will continue to provide updates on the situation," Big Hit Entertainment ended its statement. "We ask for the full cooperation of fans."
It was not the first time that Big Hit Entertainment announced its plan to take legal action against malicious netizens to protect BTS. In 2016, it defended the group for experiencing lots of difficulties handlings rumors and nasty comments about them.
So, Big Hit Entertainment decided to take legal action against netizens who continuously slander their reputation. It went on to say that the company and BTS worked very hard to accept all the criticism positively and used it constructively to grow and improve.
But, there were points that the comments made against BTS were too derogatory not to notice. Netizens also "consistently and habitually" spread wrong information and attacked each member personally from their work, activities, and personal lives, among others.
In 2017, Big Hit Entertainment also gave an update about its plan to seek legal action against malicious netizens. It promised it would not overlook the netizens' bad behavior for attacking and slandering BTS.
