Officer Suhai Aziz Talpur, a member of the Pakistani police force, was lauded for her heroic actions during the assault on a diplomatic mission in the southern port city of the country, whereby she was able to save countless lives including one Chinese national.
Inciting Incident
According to the report from Reuters, Officer Talpur heard of the attack that was carried out on a Chinese consulate in Karachi while she's on her way to work on Friday, November 23.
The policewoman rushed to the scene where she found two other Pakistani policemen dead, along with the bodies of three members of the insurgents who attempted to blow the building.
The assault lasted nearly two hours.
In her account, Talpur, an assistant superintendent, told the news agency that when she arrived at the scene, there was already an exchange of fire between the government forces and the rebels. There were also blasts heard from different places.
Upon sizing the situation, Talpur immediately called for reinforcements. Upon their arrival, the team started to advance inside the building in order to retake the consulate from the insurgents.
The responsibility of the attack on Karachi was claimed by separatist insurgents hailing from the southwestern Pakistani province of Baluchistan.
As mentioned above, there were two casualties of the encounter, including two Pakistani police officers.
In an interview, Talpur said that the two downed officers namely Ashraf Dawood, assistant sub-inspector, and constable Amir Khan, were the real heroes. Both policemen sacrificed their lives to protect the civilians near the area, Talpur added.
As soon as the dust settled, Talpur told the media that she and her team entered the consulate to find a Chinese woman along with four Pakistani men.
Instant Celebrity
The tale of Talpur's bravery took the Internet by storm. A report from Tribune cited a photo of her holding a pistol while being flanked by Pakistani commandos as they enter the building.
Aside from the fame, she garnered in Pakistan, Talpur somehow earned the praises and admiration of the Chinese netizens. Some of them even gave the 30-year-old a marriage proposal.
The Chinese social media community went on to laud her apparent good looks to which they compared to a famous Chinese actress, Guan Xiaotong.
Talpur's promotion in the Pakistani police force is more than being called for by the public. She also happens to be one of the only two female officers who hold a high ranking position in the law enforcement sector.
Pakistan's police and military agencies have been pushing for the inclusion of more women in the force.
