Walt Disney's "Frozen" celebrates its fifth anniversary this year, so fans get more curious as to what the company has to offer in "Frozen 2." Fans have high expectations in the sequel since its original installment became a big hit. Surrounded by a lot of rumors from having a young adult theme to Elsa (Idina Menzel) getting a girlfriend, here is everything you should know about the film so far.
Walt Disney recently announced that "Frozen 2" would be out a week earlier than its set release date. According to Forbes, it might be because "Wonder Woman 1984" and "James Bond 25" release moved from November 2019 to 2020.
The change let "Frozen 2" move from the big movies coming in December of that year like "Jumanji 3," "Star Wars IX" and "Cats." It could also be about its aim to win the biggest "November Fri-Sun" movie debuts in history like "Hunger Games: Catching Fire" that got $159 million in 2013 and "Incredibles 2" with $184 million.
"Frozen 2" will also reportedly have a young adult fantasy theme like "Twilight," "Harry Potter," and "The Hunger Games." Now the question is will the movie sequel turn dark? The answer is, no. The film may only inject a little reality of life in the storyline by adding a plot twist just like what DreamWorks Animation did with "Kung Fu Panda 2" and "How To Train Your Dragon 2," which both turned to be the firm's two best films.
Although domestic audiences didn't like its harsh plot turns, the two animated movies earned $600 million worldwide. There are also rumors that Disney may feature YA romance in "Frozen 2" by giving Elsa a girlfriend, adding a mature theme in the movie that might have PG-13 content.
"Frozen" fans might still be too young when they watched the first movie in 2013. Five years have passed, they might be now teenagers and would be allowed to watch "Frozen 2" if it would get the PG-13 rate.
Of course, Walt Disney would not allow "Frozen 2" to feature nudity, profanity or even gore scenes. It might just age its content and theme, and be the next "November's big YA fantasy adventure" like other R-13 movies.
Aside from its storyline and theme, fans are also excited to hear "Frozen 2" new songs after the success of "Let It Go." So far, the film's co-director Jennifer Lee revealed that the movie already has four tracks that would surely catch fans' attention.
"We have a new song that I think is an evolution," Lee told Variety. She went on to say that Bobby Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez sent the new "Frozen 2" song to her, and she now loves it.
The said song is just one of the four tracks they chose for "Frozen 2." Lee also added that the sequel would be "bigger, more epic" than its predecessor, and Elsa and Anna (Kristen Bell) would "go far out of Arendelle."
Walt Disney recently announced that "Frozen 2" would be out on November 22, 2019. It was a week earlier than its original November 27, 2019 release date.
