Something great just happened in the TV series "The Walking Dead." Animal lover Norman Reedus, the actor who portrays the fictional character of Daryl Dixon, has finally been given what he wanted after being persistent for years. His character in the apocalyptic zombie series has now been given a dog as his companion-a fully-grown German Shepherd.
The added doggo in the TV series cast gave the story a new sense of adventure. The very moment Daryl's canine companion was featured in the series, the pooch, which has been named as Dog, instantly became the TWD fans' favorite.
As the story with the fur baby goes deeper, fans can't help but fear for the worst. Everyone knows how it usually ends for TWD's characters. And since Dog is now one of the casts, death will surely be at its paws ready to devour.
Given this reason, viewers launched a petition that urges the TWD management team to at least spare the doggo from any possible gruesome and inhumane death.
The creator Kelsey B wrote, "Something amazing has just happened, a doggo has joined the cast! But the scary thing is that that doggo could now be in danger of getting killed off in the rough world of TWD."
Kelsey further explained how she usually gets affected by violence committed against innocent animals as compared to how it is with humans, as posted by Digital Spy. She believes that the idea of the helpless and innocent Dog dying in the hands of the zombies is unbearable, and no one deserves to feel so upset with that.
Despite being a TV series full of death and violence, she still wants to make a stand, offer her 2 cents for her plea to happen, and be able to see Dog give happiness and hope to TWD fans especially those who love and care for animals.
Angela Kang, TWD showrunner, said fans need not to worry a thing about it and ensures she is herself won't even have the heart to bring forth harm to the dog by saying, "I don't know if I have the heart to kill the dog."
She also added how she loves the idea of Daryl having a dog in the series, according to Comic Book. So she wouldn't let that end soon or worst in a gruesome way. "When I started the show in season 2, I was also Team Daryl Should Have a Dog."
As of now, the petition is already very close to its 45,000 signatures goal.
