Ellen DeGeneres might be leaving her daytime talk show soon. The talk show host reveals she's considering leaving "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," which debuted 15 years ago.
During her interview with The New York Times, DeGeneres said she is thinking what to do next as soon as her contract ends in 2020. The talk show host had renewed her deal back in 2016, but she's been close to declining the offer that would keep her in the daytime talk show through Season 12.
DeGeneres said she's receiving conflicting advice from her wife Portia de Rossi and her older brother Vance DeGeneres when it comes to considering retiring from her long-running hit show. The talk show host said her wife agrees she should be ending "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and focus on other things, but her brother believes the audiences of her show needs her positivity in life.
DeGeneres, who married de Rossi in 2008, noted her wife gets mad whenever her brother suggests she can't stop the daytime talk show. The reason why de Rossi wants DeGeneres to retire is that she thinks she's a brilliant actress and standup, and her daytime talk show does not define her creativity.
She said the talk show host could tackle other things, and ending her show doesn't necessarily mean she's ending her career as well. DeGeneres also reveals she's considering a much bigger change, saying she'd like to do another film and play someone "unappealing" for once.
When it comes to rumors she treats her staff members differently off camera, she said that's not true at all as she actually told her staff to be happy and proud with their work, and if ever they weren't happy, then they should be working with her.
"No one is going to raise their voice or not be grateful," the talk show host said.
DeGeneres' remarks were likely misunderstood, but de Rossi explains her wife is a bit complicated than she appears on her show and there's more range of emotion.
Meanwhile, Netflix's Relatable, which was DeGeneres' first stand-up special since 2003, will premiere this December 18. It will tackle the talk show host's mega-fame, as well as another side of herself. DeGeneres said she wanted to show the real her because her talk show only shows her character being a TV host, which is different in showing all of her and she's looking forward to showing her fans a different and fuller version of herself.
