Disney's "Star Wars" TV spinoff is finally taking shape. Now that casting for "The Mandalorian" is nearly complete, sources say that the story will take place some five years after what happened in the 1983 movie "Return of The Jedi" ("Star Wars" 6).
The Hollywood Reporter journalist Borys Kit posted the alleged timeline for "The Mandalorian" on Twitter. He also added that the show would take place in the Outer Rim territories. With its diverse culture, the Outer Rim is where the power of the Empire isn't recognized. However, this is a vast space manned by either mercenaries or the Empire's Stormtroopers.
Not long ago, Super Bro Movies also reported that the plot for "The Mandalorian" would involve the lead character saving a baby during one of his mission. He is supposed to kill the child but ends up changing his heart and sparing the baby's life.
There have also been speculations that this unidentified child will grow up to be a very important figure in trilogy movie sequels ("Star Wars" 7, 8 and 9). The Mandalorian, therefore, will protect this child at all cost.
Disney picked Pedro Pascal ("Game of Thrones") as the gunfighter and the mandalorian back in November. A few weeks later, the casting of Gina Carano ("Deadpool) and Nick Nolte ("Affliction") were also confirmed. Recently, the studio announced that Giancarlo Esposito ("Breaking Bad"), Emily Swallow ("Supernatural"), Carl Weathers ("Predator"), Wezner Herzog ("Jack Reacher"), and Omid Abtahi ("American Gods") would also join the series.
Fans of the "Star Wars" universe might associate the culture and behavior of a mandalorian to other familiar characters like the bounty hunters Boba Fett and Jango Fett. But the real mandalorian wears cool armors and carry better weapons.
"Iron Man" and "Lion King" director Jon Favreau is developing, writing and executive producing "The Mandalorian." The show is expected to have at least 10 episodes for its first season run on the Disney streaming platform. Filming for the series is set to start in 2019 with a potential 2020 outing, or roughly the same time as Disney plans to launch its new service to compete with Netflix.
"The Mandalorian" is one of two new projects that Disney plans to create as a series from the "Star Wars" universe in the new platform. The other show will be a prequel to "Rogue One," which will feature the rebel Cassian Andor (Diego Luna).
