Are Russians going to invade Hawkins, Indiana in "Stranger Things" season 3? This plot point for the upcoming season's new storyline may have been unintentionally leaked on a movie website.
Eagle-eyed fans of the series noticed a particular casting detail on the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) crediting one actor as a Russian Guard. However, this was allegedly changed to just "guard" or "soldier" later on, which to the fans meant that someone was trying to cover up the oversight.
But according to Inverse, whoever made the edits did not correct the detail on the IMDb episode page. The word "Russian Guard" still appears in the descriptions.
It bears noting, however, that any person can instantly change the details on the IMDb pages. So, without any confirmation coming from Netflix or the people behind "Stranger Things" season 3, the leaked casting detail might have no significant bearing for the show at all.
But the discovery still has fans talking, especially since "Stranger Things" season 3 is set in 1985, at the height of the Cold War between the U.S. and Russia. Speculations are that the Russians might also have its supernatural experiments to compete with America. It's also possible that the Russians have discovered the mysteries of the Upside Down and the reason there are in Hawkins is to take control of its creatures.
As with many other popular shows, "Stranger Things" has always kept the details of the episodes a well-guarded secret. But executive producer Shawn Levy said in an Italian TV interview that the new installment would have a lot of influence from director John Carpenter and other '80s horror directors. In other interviews, Levy also said that the treatment of the third season was inspired by the film "Back to the Future."
Meanwhile, Netflix released the first teaser to "Stranger Things" season 3 that enumerated the eight-episode titles. These are "Suzie, Do You Copy?," "The Mall Rats," "The Case of the Missing Life Guard," "The Sauna Test," "The Source," "The Birthday," "The Bite," and "The Battle of the Starcourt."
Confirmed to return for "Stranger Things" season 3 are the main young stars, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Noah Schnapp, Caleb McLaughlin, and Sadie Sink. David Harbour, Winona Ryder, Natalie Dryer, Charlie Heaton, and Joe Kerry are also back for the third installment, while the show will also introduce new cast members Maya Thurman-Hawke, Cary Elwes and Jake Busey.
