It's been almost a year since the last "Fifty Shades" movie hit theaters. Jamie Dornan, however, revealed he still can't shake off the idea that fans may only see him as the film's lead character, Christian Grey.

The 36-year-old star acknowledged that the role, which he has held on to for three blockbuster films, has made a lasting impact on his career. Only, there's also a downside to playing such an iconic figure.

Speaking with Deadline to promote his latest movie "A Private War," Dornan said that being Christian Grey has given him so much regarding financial success. It is no secret that the trilogy -- "Fifty Shades of Grey" (2015), "Fifty Shades Darker" (2017) and "Fifty Shades Freed" (2018) -- collectively earned nearly a billion dollars at the global box office.

But Dornan also realized that this might be the character he could be fighting his entire career. He admitted that he worries his fans will only remember him for this particular role so now he's much more challenged to pick better projects to prove that he can do other things.

Christian Grey is the handsome and powerful protagonist of the "Fifty Shades" trilogy written by E.L. James. He had a sexual fetish for role-playing dominance and submission and seduced an inexperienced and awkward Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) into becoming his partner. The liaison has been like a sexual awakening for Steele, but it also changed Grey in the process because he finally learned to love and have deep feelings for a woman who changed his very nature.

In another interview with Vulture, Dornan confessed that he will never take on another role like Christian Grey ever again. It was a job that attracted so much attention and public scrutiny that the hysteria around it still felt strange for him.

However, the actor still keeps a positive perspective about playing such a high-profile role. He's grateful that more doors have opened for him in Hollywood because of it.

But Dornan was already quite famous even before he assumed the role of Christian Grey over five years ago. He was part of the first season of the ABC hit series "Once Upon a Time" but had to quit the show because he was set to do the trilogy.

Dornan also managed to be part of the critically-acclaimed series "The Fall" with Gillian Anderson even while working on "Fifty Shades" during the off-season. He gave a chilling performance as the serial killer Paul Spector for which he earned an acting nomination from the National Television Awards.
