The year is about to end, and it shows another great success in the music industry. With the emergence of K-Pop, the return of classic hits and iconic group, take a look back to the hits and stories that made 2018 a great year for music.
K-Pop
BTS conquered the world and made history when it hit the No. 1 spot of US album chart. The seven-member group injected the K-Pop fever into the West as even international fans show tremendous support to the South Korean boy band.
According to The Current, BTS now has a net worth of $3.6 billion to the South Korean economy. And they are not only the K-Pop group who is making a big name in the West. Other South Korean stars are making a major collaboration with international music artists, building a cult following, and generating news and views around the world.
ABBA
With the release of the much-awaited sequel movie "Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again," comes the return of ABBA's greatest hit. Cher's remarkable cameo in the film as Ruby Sheridan even results to a release of her cover of the group's album, titled "Dancing Queen." It even got No. 2 on the music charts, per Official Charts.
"Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again" cast recording even got No. 1 during the summer. ABBA even announced their return with "ABBAtars" tour, where virtual reality versions of themselves are going to perform their hit songs once again.
Movie Soundtracks
Movie soundtracks also thrive this year. Kendrick Lamar's "Black Panther" movie soundtrack became a hit, and could even end up giving him his first Album of the Year Grammy.
The Queen biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody" made the title track a big hit once again; making it conquered the airwaves for three different decades. Rami Malek's outstanding performance as Freddie Mercury could even give him an Oscar nomination. The film also made history by being the highest-grossing music biopic.
Lastly, Lady Gaga turned into a movie star with her film "A Star is Born" opposite Bradley Cooper. Its soundtrack, "Shallow," even got Grammy nominations for Song and Record of the Year.
Spice Girls Return
Four members of the Spice Girls, Geri, Mel B, Mel C, and Emma, announced their return on stage with a UK and Ireland tour. Unfortunately, 90s fans will not see Victoria Beckham as Posh spice once again as she will not be joining the group.
Spice Girls will kick off their Dublin tour by visiting eight cities across 13 dates. There are also rumors there will be a special appearance of Katy Perry.
