New Year's Eve celebration doesn't just give us new hope for the upcoming year, but it also leaves us a lot of remnants from the feast, which we usually put inside our fridge to extend its freshness. Or is it?
Experts warn that not all food is perfect to store inside a fridge. Reason for this is the factors found inside the cooler that can turn your favorite healthy treats into something bad that could even harm your body once eaten.
MELONS
There are different kinds of melons. These include cantaloupe, watermelon, and honeydew. These melons may differ from sizes and colors, but all of which are advised not to be put inside the fridge once it is still whole.
Doing so doesn't just keep its flavor at its best, but it also keeps the antioxidants inside it safe and intact. These antioxidants are perfect in securing the cells inside the body from free radicals that could damage it. Once cut, this fruit can already be stored in the fridge even up to four days.
POTATOES
Potatoes are mostly composed of starch. Since this kind of carbohydrate is not a fan of low temperature, exposing it to the coldness of your fridge could only cause this starch to break, turning its bold starchy taste into something sweet and gritty. According to Standard Media, if you want to store your potatoes properly, try to put it in a dry, dark place instead. Keep it inside paper bags or net bags, and it will surely be at its best for days.
BREAD
One of the ways most people do to keep the mold away from their favorite bread is by keeping it inside the fridge. Unfortunately, most of them don't know that the cold temperature inside it would only tend to dry the bread's texture.
So instead of putting it inside the chiller, try to store it inside the freezer. Once you are all ready to consume it, just expose it in room temperature and let it sit for a while until it softens.
NUTS
If you want to keep the strong, delicious nutty flavor of your favorite finger food, nuts should never be stored inside your fridge since its cool temperature could only reduce its flavor, as posted Reader's Digest. Aside from that, keeping this food inside it could only make it more susceptible and absorbable to other fridge odors, which obviously could affect its taste.
Other foods that should never be kept inside a refrigerator if you want to have it fresh and healthy are basil, onions, tomatoes, coffee, garlic, hot sauce, honey, avocados, stone fruits, oil, cucumbers, pickles, bell peppers, and chocolate.
