A leaked artwork featuring "Frozen" characters Anna and Elsa may provide some hints about the upcoming sequel. A fan uncovered the drawings from a Disney calendar that exclusively came out in Russia.
The "Frozen 2" artwork showed Anna and Elsa's appearance as looking slightly older. Anna's hair and clothes look are especially different. According to Screen Rant, this suggested that there could be a time jump in the follow-up movie.
Instagram user @the.cursed.prince shared three images of the "Frozen 2" artwork on the picture-sharing site. He also stated that he had the calendar's details translated and learned that the core cast of Anna (Kristen Bell), Elsa (Idina Menzel), Olaf (Josh Gad) and Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) will be venturing into the forest to uncover some mysteries and the truth about their kingdom, Arendelle.
Fans also took notice of the artwork's background. It's possible "Frozen 2" won't be taking place in the winter season because of the falling red leaves and the general autumn vibe of the drawing.
The plot to "Frozen 2" has been a well-guarded secret but writer and director Jennifer Lee did hint to Variety that the girls are going far away from Arendelle. Bell also shared that she and Lee sat down together to talk about her character's new hurdle after the last movie. The voice of Anna said that this sequel feels very intimate for her and she knows it will resonate with a lot of people in real life.
Meanwhile, "Frozen 2" will also feature new characters. Evan Rachel Wood and Sterling K. Brown have been cast in secret roles last summer when production was deeply underway. Bell could not help but feel ecstatic to have Brown in the cast, as she admits she's such a big fan of the award-winning actor from "This Is Us."
Brown revealed that he auditioned to be in "Frozen 2" because he wanted to be part of the production that his young sons, age 7 and 3, could watch. The actor, however, was also tight-lipped about who he'll play in the sequel.
"Frozen" first hit theaters in 2013 and blew up the box office. But it took Disney a while to do a follow-up movie because Lee and co-director Chris Buck, as well as the rest of the people behind the production, wanted to come up with a worthy story that will be better than the original.
The animated movie was unlike any other Disney princess movie because it did not center on romantic love. Instead, it dealt with the love between sisters and family.
"Frozen 2" will be out in theaters in November 2019. The new movie will also feature four different songs that are expected to become hits, just like "Let It Go."
