Patrick Stewart is actively working with the writers of his upcoming and still untitled Captain Picard series. Executive producer Alex Kurtzman revealed that the actor spent at least two weeks at the writers' room to help the scribes develop the story to the latest "Star Trek" spinoff.

Kurtzman told Digital Spy that Stewart is quite hands-on with the development process of the upcoming TV show. If the actor is not in the writers' room, he habitually sends them "beautifully written emails" that speak of what his iconic character may feel about certain scenes.

The Captain Picard series' team of writers include Akiva Goldsman, James Duff, Michael Chabon, Kirsten Beyer, as well as Kurtzman. Rod Roddenberry, the son of "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry will produce the show.

The plot to the planned spinoff will take place 15 years after "Star Trek: Nemesis," where Capt. Picard is no longer the head of the Starfleet. It will be interesting to see how the show will play out this new life for the iconic character.

Stewart played Capt. Jean-Luc Picard of the USS Enterprise in the series "Star Trek: The Next Generation" (TNG), which aired from 1987 to 1994. The actor also appeared as Picard in the "Star Trek" movies like "Generations" (1994), "First Contact" (1996), "Insurrection" (1998) and "Nemesis" (2002).

The actor disclosed in a statement to Variety that when the last "Star Trek" movie wrapped up, he felt that he would never be able to revisit Picard. He thought that his time on "Star Trek" has naturally ended so to be planning a new TV show today was unexpected.

CBS All Access has not yet set a premiere date for the Captain Picard series. There have also been no announcements about the cast since the scripts have not yet been completed.

Meanwhile, the other "Star Trek" spinoff series on the streaming platform, "Star Trek: Discovery," will return for season 2 on Jan. 17, at 9:00 p.m. Viewers may recall that the first season ended with the arrival of USS Enterprise.

The second season will introduce Anson Mount as the younger Capt. Christopher Pike. Tig Notaro also joins the cast as Commander Reno.

"Star Trek: Discovery" will also highlight reunion between Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and her half-brother Spock (Ethan Peck). The actor told TV Insider that his version of Spock is someone who has yet to fully realize his genesis. His still swaying between his Vulcan and human tendencies and thus will be quite emotional than the versions of Spock.
