Warner Bros and DC's upcoming reboot of the Batman franchise will likely feature another villain. Reports hint that besides the Penguin, the upcoming movie from director and writer Matt Reeves might also bring in another antagonist.
According to Heroic Hollywood, the details on this villain's identity remains a top secret, as is the plot for "The Batman." There have been rumors earlier that The Riddler might be part of the story. There are also indications that the film will feature a younger version of the superhero, which means that Ben Affleck's stint as the Caped Crusader might finally be over and done with.
The report further stated that Reeves finished and delivered the first draft of "The Batman" to the studios in September. If things go according to plan, "The Batman" may start principal photography by November, with the movie becoming a different kind of standalone film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).
Meanwhile, Warner Bros and DC have not yet made any official announcements about the cast of "The Batman." But despite the lack of confirmation on who will star in the film, Josh Gad has been teasing fans on Twitter that he's going to play a new version of Oswald Cobblepot, also known as the Penguin, in the upcoming movie.
On Jan. 14, Gad posted a gif of Burgess Meredith as the Penguin on Twitter and captioned this with, "Good Knight." Gad has been feeding fans the idea he's going to play the iconic villain in "The Batman" since the announcement of the solo movie's development.
According to Cinemablend, the actor even visited the DC office and met with big bosses Geoff Johns and Jon Berg. Gad has also been posting photos of penguins on social media to make fun and get a laugh from Reeves.
Warner Bros and DC have been trying to get "The Batman" movie up on the ground. But with too many development problems cropping up one after the either, it didn't seem like the film was going to get made. Aside from not naming any cast members yet, the movie has no confirmed release date so far.
Affleck, who's the current Batman for the DCEU, was supposed to write, direct and star in "The Batman." But in the middle of 2018, the actor dropped out of the project as writer and director due to his other film commitments. Reeves was brought in to develop the solo movie, but he scrapped what Affleck has been working on and wrote a new treatment for "The Batman."
