It looks like Ray Donovan (Liev Schreiber) will need professional help in the coming "Ray Donovan" Season 7. After the events that shocked many fans in the previous season finale, there would be returning roles, character developments, and more, in the series' return.
In an interview with TVLine, showrunner David Hollander talked about Alan Alda's possible bigger role in "Ray Donovan" Season 7 after Ray called Dr. Amiot for a regular therapy session. "Yes, we will see [more of] Alan [next season]," he revealed.
The development of Alan's character in "Ray Donovan" Season 7 involves Ray's need for a father figure and "older authority" who sees him as someone special or who cares for him. There will be regular therapy sessions, but it will be more about their relationship and not their doctor-patient bond. He doesn't need to remind him of his character defects or give him the medications he needs as he only wants somebody who will be there for him.
Although Hollander admitted their therapy session thing doesn't interest him, Ray and Amiot's relationship in "Ray Donovan" Season 7 caught his attention the most. Fans need to know what their bond would mean to Ray, what would Amiot wanted him to see, and how would Liev Schreiber's character reacts to it in the next season.
Hollander also talked about Jon Voight's character in "Ray Donovan" Season 7. As Mickey seemed to go to prison once again, it looked like it would be for good this time. "No one picked up [Mickey]. He's sitting there drinking with his family [in the finale's last scene]," he recalled from the last season finale.
The showrunner assured Jon Voight would always be around the television series. But, he would not discard the scenario that Mickey could be in prison in "Ray Donovan" Season 7. Although it was implied that he would indeed go to jail, it didn't mean he would do something terrible.
The previous season finale also teased a larger role for Zach Grenier as Ed Ferratti in "Ray Donovan" Season 7. Hollander revealed Grenier would be indeed part of the new season. So, fans would have to watch Ed and Ray's relationship as the latter didn't like the former. The way their connection progresses would be different from a regular employer-employee bond.
The previous season just recently concluded. Thus, it might take a little while before fans see "Ray Donovan" Season 7 back to the small screen. However, OtakuKart News reported its production might start in the spring. If it pushes through, its trailer would be out in the latter half of the year and would be released in the fall.
