The stars of "The Big Bang Theory" are moving on to other projects now that the show is ending after 12 seasons on CBS this May. Viewers, however, may see Johnny Galecki (Leonard) back on television soon enough because there's a big possibility he'll sign up to reprise his role as David in "The Conners" season 2 on ABC.

"The Conners" producer and star Sara Gilbert (Darlene) told TV Line that she's hoping Galecki will be open to joining the show permanently in the second season. The two have worked together as husband and wife on "Roseanne," the mother series of "The Conners," and Gilbert is also aware that Galecki enjoys being on their set.

But having Galecki back on "The Conners" could shake things up since Gilbert's character is in a relationship with Ben (Jay R. Ferguson). Gilbert said that this complication would be good for the show, regarding storytelling.

"The Conners" did tease David's return in the season 1 finale. Galecki guest starred as David and announced to his ex-wife that he's no longer with his girlfriend. The revelation made Darlene second guess her decision to move to Chicago with Ben, who's starting his new job. In the end, Darlene decided to stay put and told Ben she's doing it for her dad.

The story seemed like a good way to set up Galecki's addition to "The Conners" season 2. However, there's still one problem as ABC has not yet announced the show's renewal.

But "The Conners" star Laurie Metcalf (Aunt Jackie) is certain the show will return for season 2. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Metcalf said that they would likely do 10 to 13 episodes of "The Conners" season 2.

There's a good chance Metcalf is right about the show getting a second season. Ratings revealed that "The Conners" season 1 finale ended on a high note with 7.73 million viewers. The sitcom also raked the biggest number of viewers when it premiered in October, and its ratings continue to climb week after week. It's safe to say, therefore, that the show is in good standing with the network. So, the cancellation should be out of the question.

Meanwhile, "The Big Bang Theory" made Galecki one of the highest paid TV stars at one million per episode. If he decides to do "The Conners" season 2, will ABC be willing to pay the same fee as his last show?
