Fans are eagerly waiting for word on the premiere date and the first trailer of "Peaky Blinders" season 5 since production completed filming recently. But for show creator Steven Knight, it's back to work as he has started writing the sixth installment to the series.
Speaking in an interview, Knight said that he's riding on the momentum of the series, so he's not taking any breaks. Preferring to work alone than in the writer's room, the scribe said that it feels like the characters of "Peaky Blinders" are currently writing themselves.
Knight also shared that "Peaky Blinders" is so much more personal to him because he knew of British gangster stories as a child as his parents told him. Early in the series, Knight worked with other writers, but the output wasn't what he wanted. So, he's used to writing a season all by himself from beginning to end.
BBC renewed "Peaky Blinders" for season 6 and 7 last May 2018. At that time, the show hasn't even started the production of season 5. But at that point, Knight was certain of what he wanted. He planned to end the series with sirens sounding off to signal the start of World War II.
In the meantime, there's still plenty to look forward with the upcoming fifth season. Knight told TalkSport that "Peaky Blinders" season 5 is probably the best one yet.
The upcoming installment will open in the 1920s with the historic Wall Street Crash. Tommy Shelby (played Cillian Murphy), on the other hand, is still learning to understand the ropes as a budding politician.
There's going to be a lot of opportunity and misfortune in the upcoming story, as per the series synopsis. Shelby will have several encounters with a charismatic politician (played by Sam Claflin), and fans will have to wait and see if he's going to be an ally or an enemy.
But the family will have a new threat in "Peaky Blinders" season 5. A new group of gangsters has come in from Glasgow, and it's going to affect the Shelby family's dealings in Birmingham.
Helen McCrory (Aunt Polly), Paul Anderson (Arthur Shelby), Finn Cole (Michael Gray) and Sophie Rundle (Ada Shelby) are returning for the fifth season. Aside from Clafin, the show will also introduce two new characters played by Brian Gleeson and Anya Taylor-Joy.
"Peaky Blinders" is also streaming on Netflix for viewers outside of the U.K. The fifth season, however, will become available after its run on BBC.
