Someone from the jailbreak community brought good news to iOS 12 jailbreak solutions anticipators. Could this be the jailbreak solution most Apple's iPhone and iPad users are waiting for?

Ian Beer, a security research legend and a part of Google's Project Zero recently released a revelation which brings another spark of hope that an iOS 12 jailbreak is on its way. On a finding that he released through Chromium, the security research legend revealed that he discovered a kernel exploit which could result in an iOS 12.1.2 jailbreak and is also applicable to macOS 10.14.2.

The published information revealed that "Ned Williamson's fuzzer," convinced Ian Beer to take a look at the netkey code. It was also the security research legend's inspiration in publishing the exploit sample which contains commentaries as well.

Ian Beer stated that he worked around the work of Brandon Azad, his colleague. For a refresher, Azad is the one behind the recently announced "voucher swap" exploit.

The "voucher swap" exploit functions by allowing developers to write new kernel memory as it creates a "fake kernel task port." Azad, however, reported his bug discovery directly to Apple which then patched the reported exploit in the recently released iOS 12.1.3.

The Cupertino tech giant has been in the efforts of reducing if not completely preventing the iOS jailbreaks. Security researchers submit their bug discoveries as well as their vulnerability exploits to Apple which patches the bugs on their next iOS updates.

Since Azad' released bug discovery has been patched in Apple's iOS 12.1.3 release recently, and that Beer's kernel exploit was around Brandon Azad's exploit, chances are that iPhone and iPad users on iOS 12.1.3 are at the watch as their devices are more prone to the bug.

Ian Beer's discovery exploits the vulnerability in the kernel heap overflow bug in "PF_KEY due to lack of bounds checking when retrieving statistics." However, the security research legend confirmed that the kernel exploit is not yet a full-fledged iOS 12.1.2 jailbreak.

Ian Beer's work is another win for the Google's Project Zero team as the Value Walk calls it. However, there is still a lot of work to be done for the kernel exploit to come up to the level of being a full-fledged iOS 12.1.2 jailbreak.

With the frequency of releases of kernel exploits discovery, the jailbreak community is on its way for an iOS 12 jailbreak. They will only need someone with the capabilities of putting together and making use of all the bug discoveries, according to the Redmond Pie.
