"Gossip Girl" is having a renaissance on Netflix. The show, which aired on The CW from 2007 to 2012, is attracting new viewers on the streaming platform, who have been wondering if there could be a reboot. They somehow got some answers from the network boss, Mark Pedowitz.
Pedowitz revealed during the recent Television Critics Association panel that they are discussing the return of "Gossip Girl." However, The CW president still doesn't know where this talk could lead since a lot of the decisions will be up to the show's creator, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, as well as Warner Bros.
But an insider told Page Six that the "Gossip Girl" reboot won't likely happen with the original stars. The reason for this is quite simple as most of the actors are currently signed on to other projects. Thus, any plans to bring the original cast back together for another round might not happen in the near future.
Blake Lively (Serena Vander Woodsen) is filming back-to-back movies. Leighton Meester (Blair Waldorf) is in the cast of "Single Parents" on ABC. Chace Crawford (Nate Archibald) will have a new series premiering on Amazon called "The Boys." Jessica Szohr (Vanessa Abrams) is on the FOX sci-fi series "The Orville" and Penn Badgley (Dan Humphrey) is going to begin filming the second season of "You" on Netflix this spring.
"Gossip Girl" bad boy Ed Westwick (Chuck Bass), on the other hand, has been laying low since he's been involved in a sexual harassment controversy in early 2018. Three women came forward accusing the actor of rape and as a result, his show "White Gold," was canceled even before the start of production.
But despite the uncertainty of a "Gossip Girl" reboot, fans remain hopeful it could still happen someday. The insider said that the cast are still in touch with each other after all these years. They have even joked about accepting the offer if Netflix produces the "Gossip Girl" reboot as a limited series.
In 2018, however, Badgley didn't think that a "Gossip Girl" reboot would be a good idea this early. He told Glamour magazine that they might get together again on the screen when they are much older. Right now, however, it's just soon since the show has only been gone off the air for six years.
Lively, on the other hand, said it would be fun to do a reboot since she had fun working with the cast of "Gossip Girl." Szohr, on the other hand, said she might be up for a rebooted movie but not a TV show.
