Blue Bloods on CBS is currently on its ninth season but what are its chances of returning for season 10? The cop drama, which delves on the story of an Irish-American family of police officers in New York, has had a significant drop in the ratings on its return for the 2018 to 2019 season. Lead star Tom Selleck (Frank Reagan) said that, as far as he knows, no one has signed on for "Blue Bloods" season 10 just yet.
In an interview with CBS 58, Selleck said that the cast hasn't negotiated their contracts with CBS as of press time. But there's no reason to panic for now since it's not unusual for shows airing after its sixth or seventh run, such as Blue Bloods, to renew contracts at the tail-end of the season year after year.
This means that there's still a lot of time for CBS and the cast of Blue Bloods to negotiate new contracts. Usually, this happens before May, when the networks need to decide the next crop up shows that have to be presented to advertisers in the forthcoming season.
But when asked if they would still want to work on Blue Bloods season 10, all of the cast members replied in the affirmative. For his part, Selleck said that he would like to keep doing the show because he loves working on the series.
Since its debut in 2010, Blue Bloods has consistently ranked as one of CBS' top dramas, alongside NCIS and Criminal Minds despite this season's rating drop. The show also has a loyal fan base of cop families so it will be harder for the network to cancel the series from its weekly schedule.
Fans especially love the scenes revolving around the family dinners on Blue Bloods, according to Will Estes (Jamie Reagan) in a separate interview with the CBS Affiliate. His co-star, Sami Gayle (Nicky Reagan-Boyle), agrees with him and said that these are the scenes that represent what the viewers may want to have especially when they are going through difficult times and may need their family.
Meanwhile, as Valentine's Day is getting closer, viewers of Blue Bloods are hoping that Frank may finally fall in love in the series again. Selleck, however, told TV Insider that it's unlikely for his character to get married because Frank has made that sacrifice to be alone. It would not be fair to viewers to give Frank a girlfriend or a wife only for that to become a short-lived relationship. He confirmed that there's no love story arc in the works for his character.
Blue Bloods airs Friday nights at 10:00 on CBS.
