There's a recruit coming aboard Team Phoenix in MacGyver season 3 episode 15. Desi Nguyen (played by Levy Tran) replaces Jack Dalton (played by George Eads), who has been sent away on a special mission in the previous episode, and it looks like there's some kind of tension between Mac (played by Lucas Till) and this new girl.
Desi shows she can seriously do her job as Mac's protector based on the clips for MacGyver season 3 episode 15. But Mac remarks in another scene that the recruit is kind of "intense." He said it with a slight scowl on his face, which suggests that he might be a lot less enthusiastic to welcome the recruit.
Their first encounter on MacGyver may have also left a different impression on Mac since Desi walked on in him while he is half-naked. But could the tension between them be sensually charged? Does Mac's disapproval for this girl mean that he might be attracted to her?
Fans who've seen the teasers observed that the new girl might be built up to be Mac's romantic interest. However, not everyone is pleased with the insinuation that there's some spark between Mac and Desi. Fans think that if there's any romantic angle to be written for Mac, then it should be between him and Riley (Tristan Mays).
According to Deadline, Tran's addition on MacGyver season 3 episode 15 is as a semi-regular for now. CBS is still looking to test the waters if she could potentially co-lead the show with Till if the series receives a season 4 renewal.
Tran, a California native born to Vietnamese parents, got her big break in the movie Fast and the Furious 7 in 2015. She also appeared in shows like Shameless and The Haunting of Hill House.
Meanwhile, the upcoming episode will have Team Phoenix protecting a canine. This working dog is an alcohol, tobacco, and firearms sniffing expert with a bounty on its head. The episode will also feature guest stars Presilah Nunez as the ATF agent and Ryan Czerwonko as the smuggler.
As for Eads, the decision to leave MacGyver was a personal one. According to reports, the actor wanted to be closer to home in Los Angeles with his growing daughter, but it was difficult to do since the MacGyvers set is all the way in Atlanta. Eads' exit from the series, however, left a door open for his potential return someday.
MacGyver season 3 episode 15 airs on Friday, Feb. 15, at 8:00 p.m. on CBS.
