The anticipation for The Winds of Winter has been consistently high since it was first announced in 2011. Avid followers of the A Song of Ice and Fire series want nothing but an official declaration of its sixth installment's release date. George R.R. Martin has kept mum in the past eight years, and it seems like he is not giving any detail about TWOW soon.
Though previous reports claimed that The Winds of Winter is arriving anytime soon, recent speculations suggest that this might not be the cause. Los Siente Reinos revealed that George R.R. Martin went out of Santa Fe to continue working on his queued manuscripts. The Spanish fan site shared that the 70-year-old American novelist healed the so-called writer's block by simply getting connected with the environment again.
The Wars And Politics Of Ice And Fire fan site backup the claim. It shared that George R.R. Martin stayed in a cabin to complete the first volume of the Fire and Blood series. "George did use the cabin while completing [Fire and Blood], and he seemed to feel at the time that that had been helpful to his work process," Linda Antonsson and Elio Garcia, Jr. revealed. This, then, sparked speculations that GRRM could also be doing this to finish The Winds of Winter.
George R.R. Martin, previously, hinted that his creative juice has dried out temporarily, which forced him to take a break from writing. This, according to reports, is among the many reasons behind the delay of The Winds of Winter novel.
Meanwhile, the man behind the Game of Thrones saga debunked the claims that the A Song of Ice and Fire series would be composed of more than seven books. George R.R. Martin wrote, through his blog, that ASOIAF is not even a series because it is a complicated story that needs to be told in seven volumes, which includes the forthcoming The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring books.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, George R.R. Martin said he could not blame fans for their disappointment due to the book's delay. "I know there are a lot of people out there who are very angry with me that Winds of Winter isn't finished and I'm mad about that myself," he stated. The veteran author even shared that he got upset at himself since he could have finished writing The Winds of Winter a long time ago.
Aside from TWOT, George R.R. Martin is also working on the scripts of five Game of Thrones spinoffs. There is no official release date for the sixth A Song of Ice and Fire book until now. So, stay tuned to Business Times China for the latest news and updates The Winds of Winter book.
