There have been some interesting changes in Lethal Weapon since Damon Wayans announced in October that he's leaving the series. The show's producers and FOX may be able to convince him to come back for season 4.

Speaking to the press during the Television Critics Association panel, FOX executive Charlie Collier said that the issues Wayans had over the work schedules on Lethal Weapon may have been ironed out. The actor originally stated that he's quitting the show because he's a 58-year-old diabetic who cannot work 16 hours straight anymore.

Executive producer Matt Miller, on the other hand, said that they sat down with Wayans after he announced his exit. They were able to convince him to do two more episodes, despite saying he'd leave the series mid-season.

Now that they have shown they can address his health concerns and work around his schedule so he has more time to rest, Miller is hopeful Wayans will be changing his mind and sign up for Lethal Weapon season 4. Miller also said that Wayans was happy and in a "very good headspace" during his last day on the set.

"I think it's going to be a conversation, a negotiation," Miller said. "I'm very hopeful that he will return," he added, as per Deadline.

Meanwhile, Miller also said that there's a good plan in place for Lethal Weapon season 4. He's quite excited about the show's next storyline moving forward and the third season finale will set up this upcoming story. In fact, season 3 will end in a cliffhanger.

For his part, Collier also hinted on a potential renewal for Lethal Weapon. The FOX boss acknowledged that the show has of found its stride and that the cast and crew have been "working in lockstep."

Lethal Weapon debuted on FOX last September 2016 to become an instant hit. Based on successful movie franchise starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, the show also featured police partners who are mismatched.

Clayne Crawford played Martin Riggs opposite Wayans' Roger Murtaugh in Lethal Weapon season 1 and 2. Crawford, however, was dismissed from the show in May 2018, following reports of on-set behavioral problems.

Crawford was replaced with Sean William Scott as Wesley Cole for Lethal Weapon season 3. Maggie Lawson was also added to the series as Natalie Flynn, Cole's ex-wife. Their inclusion in the show has given Lethal Weapon more angles to explore hence fans have become more invested in their storylines.
