Former United States national security adviser, General James Jones, told CNBC on Sunday that the United States is behind China in marketing the 5G technologies globally. Jones added that officials just woke to the potential of the network. The former security adviser served under former President Barack Obama and he is also a supreme allied commander of NATO forces in Europe during the presidency of George W. Bush.

Jones noted that the Chinese government's subsidies had allowed the Asian nation to move on top and they have produced cheaper technologies. It is expected that the speed of the 5G mobile internet will boost the development of new technologies including self-driving cars and the Internet of Things. He warned that the 5G network will pose as the most disruptive technology that may come on the United States way in this century.

The general added that the 5G network has the potential to transform about all aspects of the United States society from banking to the medical field, to the smart cities that nation have ambitions for. Recently, Chinese firms and Huawei faced global pressures globally because of the criticisms of the United States and its allies.

The United States claimed that the Chinese firms, specifically Huawei, use "back door" applications on its equipment to be used in espionage. The Western economic giant blocked Huawei's equipment in the American market. Its allies including Australia, New Zealand, and Japan also followed the United States move as they boycotted the company's 5G network components. Huawei and the other Chinese firms deny all the allegations.

A Huawei spokesperson told CNBC that there was no rational reason to boycott the company in building 5G infrastructure in any country since any exclusion of a supplier in a market with few suppliers usually results in poorer quality at higher prices.

According to Jones, the competition is China and whoever wins the competition is going to be a very dominant player on the globe. He notated that China gives the world an appealing message that their products are cheap, reliable, and they don't put strings to their technology.

He, however, claims that China is not sharing its technology to the world. Since no one has direct access to their technologies except them. Jones defended the United States technology when he said that they are developing their technologies to make it more secure, unlike China. He added that American tech enables its citizens to have a private secure cell phone. He added that the United States enables its corporations to have the protection of their intellectual properties and American technology enables the United States government to be more secure.
