Eurostat's data showed the percentage of European Union member states with reached renewable energy goals as of 2017 while Pv Magazine released an article which described the effort of Dr. Miguel Oneto to initiate solar parks in Texas. China, according to last year's announcement, gives subsidies to major solar power companies. Geophysicist Wallace Broecker, known for popularizing the term "global warming", died on Monday at the age of 87.
Eurostat's report showed that the European Union, as a whole, aims to supply 20 percent of its total energy from renewable sources by next year. The 28 members of the union each have their own goal. The energy share of the members ranges from 10 percent to 50 percent. According to data, 11 countries were able to reach their goals including Sweden and Finland. Countries including Latvia, Austria, and Greece are close to attaining their marks.
Dr. Oneto's projects in Texas are expected to make a 1 GWdc solar park when combined. The doctor partnered with LAE American Energy in building the 240 MWAC/324 MWDC Misae Solar Park which was acquired on July 2018 by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners. The solar park has the capacity to support 60,000 homes per year. Oneto's other project is the 516 MWAC/681 MWDC development plan, the Misae Solar Park II, the project can supply 129,000 homes with energy. The two projects will utilize the Tesla Substation 345 KV lines.
China's move to ease a major solar power subsidy was described by Bloomberg as a move which would partially reverse rules that undercut demand in the world's biggest user and shook the global market. The China Photovoltaic Industry Association said that approvals are again being considered for utility-scale, ground-mounted projects that receive subsidies. The subsidies are expected to increase estimates for installed solar capacity in the nation. Shortly after the news broke out, Chinese solar stocks gained.
Wallace Broecker passed away on Monday at 85. The term "global warming" originated from his 1975 paper entitled "Climatic Change: Are We on the Brink of a Pronounced Global Warming?"
Major news outlet including the PNR published obituaries for Broecker. His name was immortalized as "a climate change prophet" or the "Grandfather Of Climate Science". The Columbian University professor is a giant of the field. He dedicated his life to the study of the ocean's effect on climate change. He named the Ocean Conveyor Belt, he is the first to recognize, which is arguably the most important discoveries in the history of oceanography and its relationship to the climate.
