Queen Bey, along with her rapper husband, Jay-Z, won the Best International Group at U.K. Music Industry’s Brit Awards on Wednesday. The widely celebrated couple received a trophy for their collaborative work. And although they were not able to attend the actual award’s night at London’s O2 Arena, Beyoncé and Jay-Z recorded a quick video to accept the award.
Apparently, the said video is a re-creation of the couple’s iconic Apes**t music video. In the MTV, Beyoncé and Jay-Z were standing in front of Leonardo Da Vinci’s painting of Mona Lisa inside the Louvre Museum in Paris. This has become very iconic that even the Louvre Museum’s attendees and visitors are up by 25 percent after the release of the music video. And according to Global News, the Louvre Museum 'credited the spike' in parallel to the video.
In the re-created video, the power duo delivered their acceptance and ‘thank you’ speech in front of a very stunning portrait of the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle. And just right before the video ends, Beyoncé and Jay-Z turned their gaze towards the portrait and eventually faced it.
This has become viral as it was posted on Beyoncé’s Instagram account with more than 1.4 million followers. Alongside the acceptance speech video, the pop star also posted several photos of them as a couple with the portrait of the Duchess of Sussex. Beyoncé addressed the photo with a caption that reads “In honor of the Black History Month, we bow down to one of our Melanated Monas.”
A lot of people praised Beyoncé and Jay-Z for this particular action. BBC even suggested that the video is a message to the media and support to the Duchess from the couple.
As you may know, Meghan Markle has been receiving a lot of negative attention lately. But the Duchess seems to always have Beyoncé’s support and praise. In fact, the star wrote an article on her blog about Meghan. She even stated how the former Suits actress brought a few Black traditions to her Royal Wedding. Additionally, she congratulated her on her pregnancy. “We wish you so much joy,” Beyoncé concluded.
The oil painting, on the other hand, is a piece created by Tim O’Brien for The Key. It is the official magazine of Kappa Kappa Gamma which was Meghan Markle’s sorority. The Brooklyn-based artist reportedly stated that he did not receive any message from Beyoncé and Jay-Z, “they just did it,” he added. But even so, he’s happy to know that the couple utilized his art which caused a good impact as well on his career.
