Reports about the popular British crime drama television series coming back on television have been spreading like wildfire for years now. Aside from the fact that it was such a big hit, fans claim that the series' interesting twists and turns are also two of the major reasons why it deserves another run. But, how possible it is to have Sherlock Season 5?

Series co-runner Steven Moffat, previously, stated that he had not really thought about Sherlock Season 5 yet. The Scottish television writer-producer even shared that the series' yet-to-be-confirmed fifth installment is not yet his priority since he has yet to finish his other projects. He, however, slammed the rumors claiming that the show does not need another season.

"I haven't really thought about it," Steven Moffat told Digital Spy, as per Metro, when asked about Sherlock Season 5. "Mark [Gatiss, co-showrunner]'s been doing other stuff as well, so we haven't sat down and had a proper talk about what we would do with another series," he added.

Even the owner of the café where the cast and crew of the British series often take scenes claimed that he heard the producers wanting to do Sherlock Season 5. Chris Georgiou said he learned that the show would have another installment. However, some followers of the show have doubts if Season 5 is happening, especially with the rumored spat between series lead stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.

It can be recalled Freeman claimed that the series is "not fun anymore" because the fans have set high expectations and the entire cast and crew felt so pressured to meet them. Cumberbatch, for his part, retorted to his co-star's statement by saying that it is quite unfair to put the blame on fans. This, then, sparked speculations that the two might not be able to reunite in Sherlock Season 5 should BBC order another installment.

Freeman, however, was quick to clarify his comments. The actor said he never intended to say that the show is not fun for him any longer. Though he does not like hearing negative feedback from fans, Cumberbatch's co-star said that he loves the show and he things having Sherlock Season 5 is very much possible.

Moffat also claimed that Sherlock Season 5 is very likely to happen despite the unending cancellation rumors. "Nobody has ever closed the door on Sherlock," the co-showrunner told Radio Times. "We just say the same thing all the time and it gets quoted different ways," he added.

Meanwhile, the fifth installment of the series is predicted to premiere in 2022 or 2023. However, it is important to note that BBC has not yet confirmed these reports. Hence, everything should be taken lightly until these unconfirmed claims are proven true and correct. Stay tuned to Business Times China for the latest Sherlock Season 5 spoilers, news, and updates!
