Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is likely having a baby girl. Exclusive videos from her lavish baby shower revealed a mostly pink decoration, suggesting that the mom-to-be is expecting a daughter with Prince Harry.
Videos from the said baby shower were apparently leaked to a fan page on Instagram, as per Express. It showed the party decorated with lots of pastel colors dominated by pink.
Meghan's friends in New York, headed by tennis superstar Serena Williams and CBS anchor Gayle King, organized the intimate baby shower for her. Reports say that the dessert buffet alone cost $460 and was decorated by Darcy Miller.
Vanity Fair estimated that the overall cost of the baby shower was at $200,000. Meghan came to town unannounced for a personal visit, which included the party with 15 of her closest friends.
Another report revealed that the baby shower took place in a "castle in the sky," or atop a penthouse skyscraper in New York, as per News Corp Australia. Meghan's star-studded guests also brought expensive gifts for the mom-to-be and her baby that the items might likely get taxed.
The way the party has been presented to the media, however, is reportedly going to anger Meghan's brother-in-law, Prince William. According to the family's former butler, Paul Burrell, Prince William would not appreciate the display of extravagance Meghan showed during her baby shower.
He insisted that the party was arranged so that Meghan would be in the spotlight since a CBS anchor was also present in the event. Burrell believes Meghan is trying to undermine what Prince William is doing in terms of keeping their lives private, as what Princess Diana would have wished. "Meghan is doing exactly what he doesn't - courting attention all for her and her baby," Burrell told Fox News.
A royal expert, however, defended that the party wasn't funded by the people's money. Since it's a gift from her friends, Katie Nicholl shared to Fox News that there shouldn't be any problem with how extravagant it is.
It's likely also a cultural thing since Americans are more into baby showers than the British and they spend a lot on these kinds of parties for someone they like. More than anything, the royal family would likely be impressed by the kinds of friends Meghan has since they are successful, well-educated and influential women themselves.
Meanwhile, Meghan has already flown out of New York following the baby shower. She's with her husband on a royal visit to Morocco.
