Electric vehicles are in the news lately. Many motor companies are already jumping into this new venture. In this upcoming Geneva Motor Show, car companies have already dropped hints for their versions of electronic vehicles.
Audi will have a debut in this upcoming Geneva Motor Show next week. The company has already revealed part of its plug-in hybrids. Four models have already been lined up, namely A6, A7, A8, and Q5. The vehicles not only suggest extra efficiency through the electric motor and an integrated battery, but other models also offer multiple power outputs. In this case, buyers can have a sportier option if they want, according to Overdrive.
As for the A6, A7, and A8, the model's battery is built with a lithium-ion. It is comprised of 104 pouch cells that are stacked into eight modules. The capacity is 14.1 kilowatt-hours. The Q5, on the other hand, has the same capacity however, it is made up of prismatic cells in which case are different in shape, according to Motor Authority.
Thus, Audi is expecting to have each battery to provide an all-electric range of about 25 miles by Europe's WLTP testing standard, whatever the model is. For example, if the vehicle is from the US, the EPA estimates are mostly lower than WLTP. In this case, the batteries are located under the floor of the trunk. As follows, the battery and the electric motor is connected to a directly injected turbocharged gas engine. However, Audi has not yet specified the out or the size just yet.
As for the A8, the electric motor is designated to its eight-speed automatic transmission. For the other models disregard the cog-swapper for it to have a dual clutch transmission. The A6 and A7 PHEVs are also ready in a sportier version that offers to have a stiffer suspension and has a higher boost from the electric motor.
In line, the usual drive modes such as the Comfort and Dynamic (sport), have three PHEV-specific modes available. The EV tries to run on the battery alone, while the HOLD retains the battery's charge for later usage. The auto-suggests to hang out in the background, it provides a mix of gas-driven and electricity motive force. The system can alternate some of the energy by regenerative braking. The PHEVs are also equipped with an active accelerator pedal that provides a "pressure point" to help the driver to be as efficient as possible.
