Is Alexander Skarsgård returning to Big Little Lies season 2? The death of his character, Perry Wright, ended the story last season but it seems viewers have not yet seen the last of the actor in the HBO series.

Big Little Lies season 2 will open with more questions than answers for Perry's family. Specifically, the arrival of Meryl Streep's character, Mary Louise Wright, will bring to light new revelations about Perry and his relationships with the women of the series.

Without confirming if he's going to be back in the show, Skarsgård suggested to Variety that he guided Streep into her role as his mother. "I felt I mentored Meryl through that experience and she did a really good job," the actor said, albeit in jest. "I'm proud of her. I'm not going to take all the credit for her performance in Big Little Lies this season but...a little bit."

Last fall, Skarsgård was apparently photographed in Monterey, California, where Big Little Lies season 2 has been filming. While the actor did acknowledge he was in the area, he told Harper's Bazaar that he's not in town for work.

Yet Skarsgård also let it slip that he has read the script for Big Little Lies season 2. Even without a definitive confirmation, it looks like the actor has been hinting he'll be back in the show for some flashback scenes.

Meanwhile, taking over the director chair vacated by Jean Marc-Vallée from last season is American Honey British director Andrea Arnold. Executive producer and star of Big Little Lies season 2, Reese Witherspoon, confirmed in a press release that Arnold has helmed the episodes of the upcoming installment, which completed filming in 2018.

Book author Liane Moriarty and show creator David E. Kelley wrote the episodes together without any other references apart from Moriarty's ideas. Viewers may recall that the end of the first season of Big Little Lies followed the way the book ended, which meant there should've been no more stories to tell.

HBO, however, renewed Big Little Lies for a second season based on the clamor from viewers and the show's critical response. The network has not yet announced the show's specific return date but fans of the series can expect Big Little Lies season 2 to be on television by June.
