Despite saying goodbye to the role of Batman in the DC Entertainment Universe (DCEU) franchise, director Zack Snyder still believes that Ben Affleck has been the best actor for the role. The two worked together in both Batman V. Superman and Justice League, but now both Affleck and Snyder are out of DCEU.
Snyder posted an image of Affleck as the character in the photo-sharing app Vero after the actor said he was retiring from the role, as per Cosmic Book News. The director captioned a heart-warming tribute to address Affleck in his post.
"Best Batman ever," Snyder wrote and also thanked Affleck for his friendship, his glorious chin, and amazing heart. He said that he found out Affleck gave up on the role like the rest of the world -- when the actor announced it on social media.
Affleck has been vocal about not being able to get the Batman role right. Speaking with Jimmy Kimmel on his show, Affleck said that he couldn't crack the part so it might be better for someone else to play it.
The Oscar-winning actor and director also said that he doesn't regret passing on his cape after playing Batman in two movies. He's happy to see people excited about the possibilities of the next Batman.
Among the strongest contenders to play the next Batman is Call Me By Your Name star Armie Hammer. Rumors have it that Hammer is in final negotiations to star in The Batman, the standalone superhero movie that Affleck was supposed to do.
But Hammer denied that he's working on The Batman. Speaking with Yahoo Movies UK, Hammer said that as far as he knows that script is still being finalized and that he's not aware of the production date. The actor also said that he's still not sure if he's available to play the new Batman since he has many filming commitments.
Director and writer Matt Reeves has taken over Affleck's obligations in The Batman. He has stated that the new film will focus on the superhero's detective skills as Bruce Wayne and it will be very different from all the rest of the Batman movies.
According to Heroic Hollywood, Reeves also confirmed The Batman would likely feature at least three or four villains based on the comic books. Reeves described the movie as somewhat like a rogue gallery for Batman's nemeses.
The Batman is set to arrive in theaters in June 2021.
