Has the Netflix drama series Atypical started filming the third season? Viewers have been curious about the show's status since the streaming platform renewed Atypical for a third season last October.
While there are no hints that the stars of Atypical season 3 have gone back to the set, viewers could still expect the show to be ready on the streaming platform by late 2019, according to Express. The official social media account of Atypical stated that it will be "coming soon," which may hint that fans don't have to wait too long for the show's return compared to other Netflix programs.
Atypical season 1 debuted on the streaming platform in August 2017 and the second season follow-up was released in September 2018. But since production for this series has been discreet, it's all speculation for the show's release date for now.
The show is not like any other family story on television. The series centers on a young man named Sam Gardner (played by Keir Gilchrist) whoan has autism spectrum disorder.
Sam tries to navigate his life as a young adult who wants love and independence. While that's challenging enough as it is, life is even harder for someone who needs to always prove that he's just like the rest of the kids.
The end of Atypical season 2 saw Sam getting into Denton University for college, upon the prodding and encouragement of Julia (played by Amy Okuda), his therapist. Atypical season 3 will no doubt bring new challenges for Sam since he's going to have to adjust once more as a college kid.
The show also features Sam's younger sister Casey (played by Brigette Lundy-Paine) who has been his protector since they were little kids. Atypical season 3 will likely continue the storyline on Casey's struggles with her feelings for Izzie (played by Fivel Stewart) and Evan (played by Graham Rogers). Who will she choose between these two and will she finally acknowledge who she really is deep inside?
Lundy-Paine discussed her character's progression with Vulture and said that Casey is terrified about her feeling for Izzie. "I hope that it goes on in season three. She's been awoken, as we might say, to her young queer youth," the actress said.
The actress also revealed that she's looking forward to Atypical season 3's exploration of Casey's sexuality. She hopes, however, that Casey's story would be gentle, messy but beautiful.
