FedEx is working on advancing its delivery service and in connection with this, it unveiled its new delivery robot called the SameDay Bot. For this project, the shipping company teamed up with the DEKA Development & Research to create the machine that can fulfill the job the way FedEx envisioned it to be.
Via press release, FedEx announced its plans for automated delivery service. It also revealed its 'Autonomous Delivery Robot' that will be used for modern delivery solutions and meet the changing needs of customers.
Moreover, with the SameDay Bot, as its name suggests, retailers will now be able to make deliveries in nearby locations on the same day the order was placed. FedEx For this
FedEx is joining forces with leading retailers including Walmart, Target, Pizza Hut, Autozone, Lowe's and Walgreens to help evaluate the retailers' autonomous delivery requirements. Based on the research, the shipping company found that around 60 percent of the merchants' customers reside within three miles from the location of the shop. This information shows the opening for on-demand, hyper-local delivery.
Commenting on the new delivery solutions, FedEx's EVP and communications officer, Brie Carere said, "The FedEx SameDay Bot is an innovation designed to change the face of local delivery and help retailers efficiently address their customers' rising expectations."
Adding that, "The bot represents a milestone in our ongoing mission to solve the complexities and expense of same-day, last-mile delivery for the growing e-commerce market in a manner that is safe and environmentally friendly."
Likewise, Lowe's EVP, Don Frieson stated that the concept of FedEx's SameDay Bot provides the convenience and capability that can truly simplify and hasten the distribution goods to their customers. He went on to say that the service is advantageous to the customers too because they can save time and money by not leaving the workplace and have their supplies or tools delivered to them instead.
Autozone is looking forward to the partnership with FedEx as well. "We are thrilled to be working with the talented teams at FedEx and DEKA on this revolutionary innovation," Autozone's president and CEO, Bill Rhodes, said. "When we saw the FedEx SameDay Bot in action, it confirmed to our team the many ways it can help us improve our service by offering reliable, highly efficient deliveries to our customers."
Meanwhile, Reuters reported that FedEx's SameDay Bot is battery-powered and features six wheels. It runs at a speed of 10 miles (16 km) per hour. The testing must be successful so that the project can push through and become a regular delivery option.
