Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos was apparently urged by his head of security Gavin De Becker to take a 30-day break from seeing his mistress of eight months, Lauren Sanchez, and try to save his marriage of 25 years with his wife MacKenzie.
De Becker had also recommended a $12,500-a-week couple's retreat in Hawaii for the Bezos, at a place called Maui Intensives which caters to clients by "word of mouth only." Intensives is run by therapists Judy Gabriel and Rae Ariel.
Bezos head of security endorsed the place highly and is even quoted on the place's website as saying that the approach the retreat utilizes is so effective that it can accomplish in "a week" what the usual 50-minute therapy sessions achieve in years.
It is not known whether the couple had really gone there for the therapy, but the center's services had been engaged, according to Lauren's brother, Michael. And if it were any indication, Bezos' plane was in Hawaii February 16 to 22.
Michael, who is a shareholder at Bezos' Amazon company, had referred to the retreat, saying that with Ariel and Gabriel hired, they should "watch out." He meant that, with De Becker getting into the picture, the latter would try to get the billionaire to reconciliate with his wife, and then they would be "f***ked."
"At the end of this," according to Michael, they were all going to appear "really, really bad."
In January 10, the Bezos, Jeff and MacKenzie, released a combined statement on the Twitter that they were splitting up officially. The two had also pointed out that the split was amicable and that both had given it a shot but that the step toward divorce was something that was inevitable, even though they would have still decided to the marriage had they known from the beginning that was where they end up.
Laura Sanchez and her husband Patrick Whitesell, a highly successful talent manager, have had an of-and-on relationship. The couple was said to have separated in the fall.
All this was right on the heels of the National Enquirer's published coverage of the so-called affair.
In the meantime, De Becker had been conducting an investigation into who it was that leaked the information as well as photos on Bezos' and Sanchez's love affair to the National Enquirer. Michael, who the security chief admitted was questioned regarding the leak, strongly denied having done so.
However, multiple sources have confirmed that Laura's pro-Trump brother was responsible for passing the aforementioned photos to the Enquirer as well as the intimate texts between her and Bezos.
With this in consideration, De Becker has indicated he is looking into the possibility that Michael's actions were "politically motivated." He is also of the opinion that a government entity would have had the means to gain access to the texts in question. The Bezos chief of security has already prepared a 90-page report based on his investigations and has indicated that he will be publishing it.
The story gets even more involved at this mention of the president, but he supposedly figures in the story not only because he has been public about his abhorrence for all things Bezos---he has even referred to the Amazon billionaire as "Bozo" on Twitter and the latter's paper as the Amazon Washington Post---but also, it is known that the president's associate, David Pecker, is AMI's CEO and chairman.
American Media Incorporated (AMI) is the publisher of the National Enquirer, which had hogged and published the information on Bezos and Laura Sanchez affair, going as far as having the supposedly illicit couple trailed during their trysts.
Pecker's ties with the United States President was what had embroiled him in the first place, with the issue that alleged Trump fixer Mike Cohen claimed regarding the paying off of two women who were said to have had affairs with the president. Significantly, AMI and its CEO are also under investigation for certain dealings with the Saudi Arabia government.
In an article he wrote on Medium, Bezos made a reference to these issues and mentioned that Pecker has struck a deal for immunity in his involvement in the above matters. The online shopping mogul has also made mention of a 97-page piece on Saudi Arabia in May 2018, published in a magazine tabloid form that spoke volumes.
The release which centrally featured the Saudi crown prince, who was to arrive around that time, was obviously an effort to kowtow to the Saudi government. When questions arose as to its source, the Saudis had claimed to be just as mystified as everyone else. It was the Associated Press that was able to shed light on the matter.
The AP was able to source the information and uncovered that a digital copy of the said publication, in fact, published by the AMI, had been passed to the Saudi government three weeks prior to being published.
Bezos, who is said to be the richest person in history, tried to make a point in his Medium piece on the connection that ran through AMI and its CEO Pecker, Trump, and the Saudi Government, which also had an axe to grind with the billionaire's Washington Post.
The newspaper has had brushes with the Saudi government before, in an incident which had involved one of its writers, Saudi Jamal Khashoggi, who was reportedly killed inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.
And here everyone thought this was an infidelity story. Despite all this hullabaloo, Bezos and Laura are said to still be together.
