It has been over two years since fans last saw Shoyo Hinata, Tobio Kageyama, and Daichi Sawamura, among others on the court, and fans are now waiting for their return on Haikyuu Season 4. Details about the next installment remain scarce as viewers only get a limited update about its comeback on Twitter and through announcements. So, here is everything we know so far.
Fans thought Haikyuu Season 4 would have a new title after its official Twitter account revealed it would be about a new fight for the National Championship. To recall, the previous season's title was renamed to Haikyuu!!: Karasuno Koukou vs. Shiratorizawa Gakuen Koukou, so the next installment might also get a new name.
Haikyuu Season 4 would be based on the Tokyo Nationals story arc, which is the manga series' next storyline. There was also an announcement about its kickoff event during the recent stage presentation at the Jump Festa 2019 with a video teaser, featuring a new key visual.
The Geekiary reported that Haikyuu Season 4's kickoff event would take place on September 22, 2019. Seiyuu Ayumu Murase (Hinata), Kaito Ishikawa (Kageyama), Koki Uchiyama (Tsukishima), Soma Saito (Yamaguchi), and Yuki Kaji (Kenma) are said to be in attendance. Here, fans are waiting to know more about the new installment, particularly its release date.
Meanwhile, TVOvermind revealed the reason behind Haikyuu Season 4's delay production. The graphic novel's author, Haruichi Furudate, is said to have not enough materials to work on a new installment. The anime series is based on the said novel with the same title, so people behind Production I.G., which produced and adapted the manga, decided to wait for Haruichi's new materials before they work on the latest season.
Haikyuu Season 4 will be following the novels "very closely," and the studio wants to continue the tradition, instead of working on a different path and changing its storyline.
Hence, there are no concrete details yet, except for the National Champion fight, about Haikyuu Season 4. So talking about its release date, there are assumptions that it will be out within the first six months of 2019, but it looks like it is far from happening.
There are also theories that Haikyuu Season 4 will pick up where it left off, and there may be new director handling its new episodes. Although this news is not yet confirmed, Susumu Mitsunaka, who directed the manga series since it started, has yet to announce his return on working for the new season. But from the looks of it, all of the original cast will make a comeback to reprise their roles.
