Big Little Lies season 2 on HBO is not just bringing in Meryl Streep (as Mary Louise Wright) to shake-up the women of Monterey. Jane (played by Shailene Woodley) will also have a new friend to whom she'll start sharing some secrets.

According to E! NewsJane will make friends with this new person who works at her son's school. Details to the character, including its casting, has not been outlined but this person will become privy to Jane's secrets in Big Little Lies season 2.

Could this new character also learn the truth regarding the accident of Perry (played by Alexander Skarsgård) and her connection to Jane? Will this friendship become a threat to the women who have been bonded together by one harrowing experience?

Viewers may recall that Big Little Lies season 1 ended with a scuffle involving Perry and five women -- Jane, Celeste (played by Nicole Kidman), Madeline (played by Reese Witherspoon), Bonnie (played by Zoe Kravitz) and Renata (played by Laura Dern). Perry was abusing his wife, Celeste, who found out he also abused Jane, but the women came to Celeste's rescue. However, one of them accidentally pushed Perry to his death.

Meanwhile, Streep's character Mary Louse arrives in Monterey in Big Little Lies season 2 to dig deeper into her son's death. The actress told E! News that she was interested in taking on the role because Mary Louise depicted the "deficits of parenting."

Rumors also have it that Big Little Lies season 2 could feature flashback scenes making it possible for Skarsgård to return and reprise his role. The actor spoke to Jimmy Fallon on his talk show last September to confirm that he was near the show's set, but he won't say if he worked in the second season.

But a quick browse on the show's IMDb page showed casting for a younger Mary Louse and a young Perry. This confirms talks that Big Little Lies season 2 will dig up the past and will delve into a few flashbacks.

Writer and executive producer David E. Kelley said that Big Little Lies season 2 would have a different tone than the first season. Kidman echoed that the upcoming installment should be treated as "its entity," which might not be comparable to season 1.

HBO has not yet announced the actual air date for Big Little Lies season 2. For now, it's scheduled for a June release, but there's still no specific date from the network.
