HBO renewed Barry for a second season, and it was confirmed the dark comedy series would be arriving this week. Aside from the release date being revealed, the trailer of Barry season 2 has been released as well. Here are some of the things to expect in the upcoming installment.
HBO Programming's executive vice president Amy Gravitt noted in a press release that the renewal of Barry for the second season comes as many viewers were delighted with its deft interplay of comedy, as well as drama. Bill Hader, who portrays Barry and serves as the show's executive producer alongside Alec Berg, revealed in an interview that Barry season 2 started the day after the series premiered.
Barry season 1 premiered in March 2018, so many were happy the second season followed suit. The first episode will air on March 31, while the following episode is scheduled on April 7. But, the release date for the UK has not yet been confirmed.
The trailer of Barry season 2 was recently released as well. The clip shows the main character and Gene Cousineau (played by Henry Winkler) talking about their future career. It also hints Janice is still missing and Barry juggles acting and crime.
Aside from Hader and Winkler, all characters seen on the first season were expected to return on the second installment, including Michael Irby and Anthony Carrigan. Barry's love interest, Sally Reed (played by Sarah Goldberg), is also expected to be back in the upcoming season.
Additionally, Glenn Flesher's character Goran Pazar will reportedly return in season 2 to hunt Barry about his criminal past. Other recurring characters that would likely return include Cameron Britton as Simmer, D'Arcy Carden as Natalie, Paula Newsome as Detective Janice Moss, and Darrell Britt-Gibson as Jermaine.
Barry follows the story of Barry Berkman, but uses the name "Barry Block." He is a former U.S. marine but becomes a contract killer, and he wanted to follow his dream of acting on stage. He decided to take theater acting in Los Angeles, yet he couldn't get away from his old life as a hitman. What's worse is that the police were chasing him.
In an interview with IndieWire, Hader said Barry season 2 is "a bit darker." In the season 1 finale, Detective Moss faces a life and death situation and viewers wonder whether she survived and she'll be in the second season. The last episode of the previous season also showed Barry murdered his fellow actor Chris (Chris Marquette) because he was blackmailing and threatening him to go to the police. The question now is, what would be Barry's consequences in the next installment?
Barry season 2 returns on HBO on Sunday, March 31, at 10 PM.
