Andrew Lincoln and Michael Cudlitz will both return on The Walking Dead Season 10, but not in front of the camera. The two actors, who used to play Rick and Abraham's roles, respectively, are set to direct an episode each of the next installment.

After directing Season 9's Episode 7, titled "Stradivarius," Michael Cudlitz will return in the director's seat on The Walking Dead Season 10. In an interview on EW Morning Live, via Comic Book, the 54-year-old star talked about his new ABC comedy show The Kids are Alright and confirmed his comeback on the AMC series.

"I know the other cast members because I was fortunate enough to go back last year and direct," Michael Cudlitz said. "I'm going to go back this spring and direct another one."

Michael Cudlitz is set to direct The Walking Dead Season 10 Episode 3, which has yet to receive its title. However, the Southland star didn't give any details about the plot of the episode he will direct yet. Instead, he talked about the things he missed on the show after his character's demise on Season 7.

Typically, actors missed the show's other casts. But, Michael Cudlitz admitted he doesn't feel it since he often sees The Walking Dead stars "five to six times a year at different conventions" as they "travel all around the world together." What he missed is the people and fans of the series.

Andrew Lincoln, on the other hand, also revealed to Entertainment Weekly in September that he would return to the Senoia, GA, for the filming of The Walking Dead Season 10. The 45-year-old star watched Season 9's production to learn all the directing ropes as he planned to helm his own episode in the next installment.

"I'm going back," Andrew Lincoln said. "I'm going back to shadow a director, and my intention is to direct next year."

It looks like it is a common practice in The Walking Dead world that its stars direct at least an episode of the show. Aside from Michael Cudlitz, Colman Domingo, who plays as Strand in the prequel, also directed an episode of Fear the Walking Dead Season 4 Episode 12, titled "Weak."

Before helming an episode, the actors have to shadow directors on set to do their new roles well. Talking about his possible return on The Walking Dead Season 10, Andrew Lincoln said he couldn't be that far away from his family, which was the same reason he left on Season 9.

Although Andrew Lincoln couldn't bear to be away from his family, he said he is still very invested in the show and its story's continuation. The Walking Dead Season 10 is set to return in the fall on AMC.
