The historical drama The Last Kingdom has become one of the most popular titles in the Netflix library. With its medieval British theme, a lot of fans cannot help it but compare the series with HBO's Game of Thrones, well, without the dragons.

For some reason, the theme and setting of The Last Kingdom have a few similarities with one of the most watched series from HBO today. In fact, several fans even claim that it's way better than Game of Thrones due to the fact that it offers more factual events and realistic scenarios than the latter.

It is true, though, that winter has come to Westeros. And the White Walkers have already crossed The Wall. And after almost a decade or seven seasons, (almost eight to be exact) the success of George R.R. Martin, along with D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, is undoubtedly apparent.

But with The Last Kingdom, the series is still on its way to its fourth installment on Netflix. Even so, the fan base has already grown exponentially within four years. And not to mention, the intriguing politics and brutality of battles in the show are also well loved by many. Accordingly, it is no wonder why the two series are always compared with each other.

The Last Kingdom has been renewed for its fourth season last December 2018. But as to when it will exactly arrive on Netflix, there is little to no information about the details. Nevertheless, the new season is expected on the streaming giant by late 2019 or early 2020.

It is also worth noting that the production just started the preparations and training sessions for the next installment. Also, the production team is currently in Bamburgh Castle for a casting call. So, filming might happen by May of this year. All of these updates about the series' movements are shared publicly on the official Twitter account of The Last Kingdom according to What's On Netflix.

As you may know, the show is an adaption to Bernard Cornwell's Saxon Stories series. And in every season, two novels are completely utilized. So, it goes to show that The Pagan Lord and The Empty Throne will be used for the main contents of the new installment.

In these novels, the timeline jumped a decade after the recent events on screen. Hence, fans can expect a much older cast as well as new faces on the next installment considering that almost every main character in this period has grown-up kids already.
