Production for Outlander season 5 is definitely underway! Cast members like Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan and Duncan Lacroix have been sharing photos of their return to work on the widely popular Starz series.
Balfe (as Claire Fraser) posted the cover of the script of the first episode of Outlander season 5 on her Instagram. Though she didn't reveal any details of the plot, the actress' post confirmed that work has slowly started for cast and crew.
Before this, Balfe also posted a video to show what the crew has been building behind the scenes for her to use as props. Preparations on the set have been in full swing as principal photography is about to take place.
Heughan (as Jamie Fraser), on the other hand, shared a photo with the writers and executive producers of Outlander season 5. He said in the caption that he's excited to work with his Outlander family again.
Lacroix's (as Murtagh Fraser) social media post confirmed that he would be in the Outlander season 5 episode 1. But this comes as no surprise to fans since, aside from Balfe and Heughan, Lacroix has been in every episode of the show since the first day.
The show aired its season 4 finale last January, but Starz has renewed Outlander for two more seasons last May 2018. By fall, the writers confirmed that they have been back at the writers' room and have been devising the storylines for Outlander season 5.
Meanwhile, Sophie Skelton (as Brianna) hinted in an interview with TV Line that there would be more conflicts between her character and Roger (played by Richard Rankin). The couple had a huge fight when the fourth season ended, but it's going to get a lot more complicated especially with a baby in the mix.
Outlander season 5 and season 6 will be based on Diana Gabaldon's books The Fiery Cross and A Breath of Snow and Ashes. However, as before, viewers may expect some deviation from the published work even if the show has been strictly following one book source per season.
"Should we keep it a book a season? We've done that up until now," Moore told Entertainment Weekly in an interview. "But we've talked about splitting books, and we've talked about combining them. We want to be free in the writers' room to pick and choose and do what feels most comfortable that year."
Starz has not yet revealed when Outlander season 5 will return on television. Speculations are, however, that the new episodes should begin airing in the fall.
