HBO gave a new look to its new upcoming television series, The New Pope, a sequel to The Young Pope. Shirtless photos of Jude Law recently emerged, wearing only a white Speedo and fans had a lot of feelings.
Jude Law was on the beach in Venice, Italy, for the filming of The New Pope. The 46-year-old star was only wearing a white Speedo, displaying his muscular body in full view.
In one photo, Jude Law seemed to make his way in the middle of two-piece clad girls playing volleyball. In another, he was surrounded by a bunch of naked talents. He was also seen laughing with The New Pope crew while on the water.
The New Pope is a follow-up to the 2016 drama, The Young Pope, which imagined the life of the first American pope, Lenny Belardo, played by Jude Law. According to Vogue, the sequel will still be created by Paolo Sorrentino for Sky Atlantic and HBO.
Jude Law was with Ludivine Sagnier, who would play as his love interest Esther, on the filming of The New Pope in Venice. The show would also feature John Malkovich.
In the first official look to The New Pope, Jude Law and John Malkovich were seen wearing papal vestments. The image seemed to confirm the rumors that the 65-year-old star would play the role of a new pontiff.
Homeland star Mark Ivanir would also join The New Pope, along with Henry Goodman, Ulrich Thomsen, and Ghini. HBO has been keeping the show's details under wraps. The network, too, has yet to reveal the roles the new cast members will play, per Variety.
There are also rumors Sharon Stone will guest star in an unknown role in The New Pope. However, the production company Wildside's representative refused to comment about the issue.
The New Pope will have a new set of stars, but its concept will remain, and some characters from The Young Pope will also return. It includes Cecile de France as Sofia, Ludivine Sagnier as Esther, and Silvio Orlando as Cardinal Voiello.
In The Young Pope's final episode, Pius XIII, the other name of Jude Law's character, experienced temptation that could bring his papacy to an end. However, The New Pope would not play as the continuation of the first installment, as it would be a second limited series "set in the world of the modern papacy."
The New Pope production started in Rome in November, and then later moved to the UK. Now, it is filming in Venice, where The Young Pope had its open-ended finale. It would then move back to Rome. HBO has yet to announce the show's official release date, but it is expected to be out later this year.
