The characters of Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo in the 2016 hit drama series titled Descendants of the Sun caught the hearts of many not only in South Korea but in several parts of the world. So, it does not come as a surprise that many television networks around the globe are considering making its version of the popular show. As a matter of fact, just recently, Philippine TV network GMA-7 officially announced that primetime king Dingdong Dantes would be playing as Captain Yoo Si Jin in the Filipino adaptation of DOTS.

On Tuesday, avid followers of Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo were stunned after it was learned that Descendants of the Sun would have another adaptation. Though Dingdong Dantes was already confirmed to play Joong Ki's part, the network has yet to reveal who would portray as Doctor Kang Mo Yeon.

Since the announcement, fans have been clamoring about who should play Song Hye Kyo's part in the upcoming Philippine adaptation of Descendants of the Sun. Since Dingdong Dantes will play the lead character, some suggested that his wife, Marian Rivera, could become his on-screen partner again. Should this theory come into a reality, it will be Dingdong and Marian's second project together after top-billing the Philippine adaptation of the famous Mexican telenovela called Marimar in 2007.

Other actresses being rumored to play as Doctor Kang include Heart Evangelista, Carla Abellana, and Jennylyn Mercado, who previously portrayed the role of Steffi Cheon in GMA Network's adaptation of the hit South Korean television series My Love From The Stars. No other details were made public about the upcoming new show. However, the network has, previously, assured to give justice to Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo's characters.

For starters, Descendants of the Sun focuses on the story of Yoo Si Jin (Song Joong Ki), a captain of the South Korean Special Forces unit, and Dr. Kang Mo Yeon (Song Hye Kyo), who both met each other for the first time in the emergency room. Si Jin fell in love with Mo Yeon instantly and, later on, started dating while in Uruk. The pair continued their romance after returning to Korea. However, Si Jin was assumed lost and dead when he was sent on a classified operation. In the end, it was found out that Si Jin is still alive and he was, then, reunited with the love of his life, Mo Yeon.

Meanwhile, devoted followers of the Song-Song couple should watch out for their upcoming new projects. Joong Ki will star in the imminent new show called Arthdal Chronicles, which is set to premiere on June 1, 2019, while Hye Kyo will be filming for another Chinese film soon.
