The waiting game is not over yet for fans who have been, patiently, waiting for the release of The Winds of Winter novel. It has been more than half a decade since George R.R. Martin announced that the sixth installment of the A Song of Ice and Fire book series is already in the works. With the upcoming conclusion of the Game of Thrones television series, avid ASOIAF series are hopeful that GRRM would release the tome very soon.

George R.R. Martin, previously, revealed that he is very much focused, now, on completing The Winds of Winter. The 70-year-old veteran writer expressed his disappointment for not failing to finish the novel on time due to a myriad of distractions. Aside from attending events and conferences, GRRM had, also, worked on other projects including the scripts of the imminent five Game of Thrones prequels and the Fire and Blood book series.

When asked behind the reason of the delay, George R.R. Martin divulged that The Winds of Winter is very complicated to write since there are a lot of angles he wants to cover. He even said that each character has its own story to tell, which is very much impossible for him to integrate into just one novel. Because of this, some theories suggested that the forthcoming sixth installment of the A Song of Ice and Fire book series could be published in two volumes.

However, George R.R. Martin was quick to squash these theories and made it clear that The Winds of Winter will not be released in two volumes. "Some of my publishers have suggested breaking up WINDS as we did with FEAST and DANCE," the brain behind the Game of Thrones series revealed when asked for more information about the sixth A Song of Ice and Fire book. "I am resisting that notion," GRRM went on.

Fans of the popular book series have been complaining about George R.R. Martin's sluggishness in completing The Winds of Winter novel. Some followers of the author even predicted why TWOW had been delayed over and over again.

"I mean I know it sounds optimistic but George definitely sees this as his masterpiece and if I was him, I'd want the ideas at least to be totally solid and decided on for the last book before publishing the second to last," one fan shared on Reedit about The Winds of Winter. "To the point of having rough drafts done for the final book to make sure they all work and not changing his mind again. It's 50/50 if he's been working that way but it would explain the absurd amount of time it's taking to get TWoW out. And it would mean the wait for the last one would be significantly shorter," the same Reedit user added.

Up until now, George R.R. Martin has not yet released an official release date for the upcoming sixth A Song of Ice and Fire book. In July 2017, GRRM teased that TWOW is likely to come out in "late 2018 or early 2019." However, based on his current pace, it might not happen on the predicted date.
