Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment recently held a Q&A after the first screening of Godzilla: King of the Monsters at Toho Studios in Tokyo, Japan, to answer the media's question about the movie sequel. As the MonsterVerse is about to continue, director Mike Dougherty and star Ken Watanabe gave details about the highly-anticipated film.

Toho has been making monster movies for 65 years. Hence, there may be a lot of iconic monsters that can be seen in Godzilla: King of the Monsters to give a nod to its predecessors, like Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island.

Now, it is a big question of how Dougherty chose who would make way to Godzilla: King of the Monsters. "I love King Caesar and Gigan and those guys, they're a little bit more obscure," he said, via Nerdist. "There's a key point in Godzilla history where Mothra, Rodan, and Godzilla put aside their differences and decided to team up against King Ghidorah."

Dougherty was talking about the 1964 film, Ghidorah, The Three-Headed Monster, where the four monsters appeared all together on the big screen for the first time. In the film, the director understood the monstrous creatures also saw people as monsters that bullied them, thus they questioned themselves why should they help humans.

However, Dougherty didn't reveal if these monsters would appear in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Aside from the Kaiju sequel, Comic Book reported a lot is about to come to the MonsterVerse.

Legendary CEO Joshua Grode has big plans for the MonsterVerse, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters will only be the beginning. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he opened up about the franchise's future and answered the question if it could be expanded.

"I hope a lot. I hope the gas tank is full," he said. The MonsterVerse started in 2014 with Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island in 2017. Godzilla: King of the Monsters will continue the franchise to set the stage for Godzilla vs Kong, which will hit the big screens in 2020.

As Legendary's rights over the Godzilla franchise is about to expire, the studio now feels the pressure to create more stories for the franchise. However, Grode seems unworried about it.

Grode is confident that there will be a lot of stories to tell and explore in the Kaiju. The MonsterVerse's future now lies on Toho Studios' hands to decide if its "iconic monsters" are ready to tell those tales. Godzilla: King of the Monsters will be out on May 31.
