Avid followers of the A Song of Ice and Fire series have been patiently waiting for the release of its sixth installment titled The Winds of Winter. It has been, approximately, seven years since George R.R. Martin revealed that he started writing TWOW already. However, GGRM cannot provide a specific release date as of yet.

George R.R. Martin, previously, made it clear that writing the remaining chapters of The Winds of Winter is his priority right now. There were even reports claiming that the 70-year-old American novelist has been staying in a secret cabin to help him focus on writing. This, according to previous reports, was also done when he was still writing the first volume of the Fire and Blood book series.

However, recent reports suggest that George R.R. Martin might stop writing The Winds of Winter again after he revealed that he would be heading to Los Angeles for the upcoming Tolkien premiere. In a recent blog post, GRRM said that a new movie based on the life of Tolkien would be shown to theatres starting on May 8.

George R.R. Martin added that he would be at the Regency Westwood Village. After attending the film's premiere, The Winds of Winter author will be hosting a Q&A with the film's cast. He even promulgated via his official Twitter account that Lilly Collins and Nicholas Hoult would attend the said event alongside Dome Karukoski.

The veteran novelist claimed that the Tolkien film has redefined the fantasy genre and that it had an influence on his work. George R.R. Martin even said that A Lord of the Rings inspired several writers. This could mean that The Winds of Winter may have been influenced, too.

George R.R. Martin has, already, released some chapters of The Winds of Winter. While the excerpts gave fans an overview on what to expect in the upcoming sixth A Song of Ice and Fire book, a few are still disappointed with the fact that the much-awaited book has not hit the bookshelves up until now.

Based on the released The Winds of Winter chapters released, the points of view of Barristan Selmy, Tyrion Lannister, Theon Greyjoy, Victarion Greyjoy, Aeron Greyjoy, Arianne Martell, Arya Stark and Sansa Stark, who is still using the name Alayne in the novels, will be explored in the sixth installment of the A Song of Ice and Fire series.

George R.R. Martin, also, revealed, in a previous interview, that some parts of the book will not be parallel to the popular HBO series titled Game of Thrones. GRRM, previously, claimed that TWOW is likely to come out in "late 2018 or early 2019."
