There's no stopping one of the biggest K-girl phenomenon BLACKPINK from conquering the world stage. After its release four weeks ago, Kill This Love debuted on the Hot 100 hit list within the first few days. Today, the single ranks at 100. True enough, it is remarkable it has endured four weeks while being a relatively new song by the renowned Korean girl group.
Indeed, BLACKPINK is undeniably making history. It is the first to achieve a Hot 100 debut with a single song. This is another number to add to the power K-pop girl group's monumental successes, which include winning Best in Music at the 2019 Shorty Awards and being the first South Korean pop group to open as Coachella headliners.
The single Kill This Love is remarkable in itself. Not only is the tune catchy and consistent with all the releases of the K-pop group, it has over 300 million YouTube views in a month. This is further proof that BLACKPINK has joined or even surpassed the ranks of previous-generation and globally-popular groups such as BTS and Girls Generation.
However, the girl group is not immune to controversy and rumors. Recently, fans have accused YG Entertainment for favoring Jennie among the other BLACKPINK members including Jisoo, Rose, and Lisa.
However, Yang Hyun Suk, the group's producer and president of YG Entertainment, said each member is talented and portrayed as equally as possible. On the other hand, news about separating BLACKPINK members with their respective solo projects has left fans aggravated especially with YG's alleged favoritism.
Many fans described Jennie's more noticeably attractive and changing outfits that leave her as an indirect centerpiece during BLACKPINK's Asian and US tours as examples of the alleged bias. However, there is no solid evidence that validates accusations against YG Entertainment.
However, each girl member's social media accounts always receive great admiration from their fans worldwide. One example is Lisa's recent post on May 7. The group's rapper had posted a photo of herself wearing a simple baggy black shirt and jeans while slightly lifting the shirt.
All fans and admirers positively reacted to her seemingly impossible and ideal waistline. However, not everyone is impressed. Some pointed out in comments sections that Lisa -- and other girls who undergo such diets -- are way below the healthy weight-loss line, which can cause grave consequences and is a bad lifestyle.
Regardless, BLACKPINK has set the standard and made history in numerous aspects from hit singles, concerts, fashion, and even the caliber of K-pop like we've never known before. Stay tuned for more news about BLACKPINK and K-pop!
